The Blue Belt is set to be the world’s largest network of ocean sanctuaries.
Great British Oceans and Blue Marine Foundation launched the initiative with a social media campaign running alongside BBC’s Blue Planet 2.
I wrote Twitter, Facebook and Instagram posts, live Tweeted from the client account during Blue Planet 2, commissioned a photographer to create imagery around the world, and helped create social posts for celebrity advocates to put out. I also wrote the landing page and other website copy.
The aim of the campaign was to get people to write to their MPs asking them to pledge support to the Blue Belt charter. At the last count, over 280 MPs from eight parties had pledged their support, and the first Marine Protected Area around Ascension Island was established in 2019.
